This recipe has been altered from the original for the benefit of people who are allergic to shea butter or mango butter (for example, those with latex allergies). The original recipe can be found at https://liagriffith.com/homemade-whipped-body-butter/ with all the ads and pop-ups intact.
Ingredients:
½ cup each:
- Organic cocoa butter
- Organic coconut oil
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Cucpuacu butter or other substitute (mango butter, shea butter, etc.)
½ tsp of 1-2 essential oils, if desired
Optional to help prevent melting: 1-2 teaspoons beeswax pastilles
Note: I use cupuacu butter because I’m allergic to lanolin, latex, shea butter, mango, and other latex-related butters. Other products are perfectly acceptable as long as you can tolerate them.
Directions:
Put cocoa butter, coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, and cupuacu butter or another substitute in top of double boiler.
NOTE: If you don’t have a double boiler, there are YouTube videos that show you how to make a substitute with a glass or metal bowl. I got mine at Goodwill for <$3.
Heat until melted, mixing with whisk. Remove from heat, remove whisk, and put in refrigerator at least one hour or until firm.
With hand mixer, whip until fluffy. Incorporate essential oil(s) and mix again. Product may be a bit sloppy-looking, but it will firm up.
Store in GLASS jars (plastic can corrode and leach into the body butter).
I keep mine in the fridge to prevent melting since it will change the texture. (It gets hot here) If this happens, cool it in the fridge until firm, then mix until fluffy.
